The Uttarakhand government on Friday, March 28 2025, disbursed a total of Rs 172.43 crore to 40,504 beneficiaries of the Nanda Gaura Yojana. Of the total Rs 172.43 crore, Rs 162.63 crore were disbursed to 31,888 beneficiary girls who completed their intermediate education, and Rs 9.81 crore were distributed for the 8,616 girls born in the financial year 2024-25.
The state government has disbursed a total of Rs 968.64 crore to 2.84 lakh beneficiaries in the last five years under the Nanda Gaura Yojana.
Speaking during the event, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said “the state government is dedicated to Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign and a large number of girls from economically weak families have been benefiting from the Nanda Gaura yojana.” The Chief Minister further stated that many schemes including Balika Shiksha Protsahan Yojana and Chief Minister Mahalaxmi Kit Yojana are being run for the welfare of girls and women.
Cabinet Minister Smt. Rekha Arya and Secretary Shri Chandresh Kumar Yadav, Director of Women Empowerment and Child Development were present at the event along with several other officials.
The Uttarakhand government launched the Nanda Gaura Yojana in 2017 with an objective to promote the welfare of girl children in the state by providing financial assistance. The scheme also aims to promote gender equality, encourage education up to the intermediate level and discourage female feticide and child marriage.
Benefits of the scheme:
The Nanda Gaura Yojana offers a financial assistance of total Rs 62,000 in two phases:
- A financial assistance of Rs 11,000 is provided upon the birth of a girl child.
- An additional Rs 51,000 is provided to the girls upon successfully passing class 12.
The funds are transferred to the bank account of the parents/guardian through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) framework.
Eligibility Criteria:
- The family of the girl must be a permanent resident of Uttarakhand.
- Application for the Nanda Gaura Yojana must be submitted within six months of the girl child’s birth to receive the first phase instalment.
- A family can avail benefits for a maximum of two girl children.
- The family’s annual income should be less than Rs 72,000.
- The girl child’s birth should occur in a government or private hospital, or ANM centre and not at home.
How to apply:
Since the scheme is ongoing, the government accepts new applications. The eligible families can visit the official website of the Department of Women Empowerment & Child Development – https://wecd.uk.gov.in/ and fill the application form with required details and documents.
The applicants can also apply through a block office in their locality.
