Odisha Govt disburses Rs 5000 cr to 1.18 cr women under Subhadra Yojana

The Odisha government on March 08, disbursed over Rs 5,000 crore to the 1.18 crore women beneficiaries registered under the Subhadra yojana. The Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced the disbursal of the funds at a event held at Ambapua in Berhampur city. This was the second such instalment of Rs 5,000 deposited into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries. The first instalment was already released in October 2024 which was distributed in many phases. On March 08, the government also released Rs 117 crore to 2.30 lakh new beneficiaries under the fifth phase of the first instalment.

The state government has pledged over Rs 55,825 crore on the Subhadra yojana in the fiver years between 2024 to 2029.

“Subhadra Yojana has become a revolution in Odisha. In just 9 months, more than one crore women have received the second instalment”, the Chief Minister spoke during the event that also marked the celebration of Women’s day.

What is Subhadra Yojana?

Women and Child Development Department of Odisha state government had introduced Subhadra Yojana in September 2024 with an aim to empower women from economical weaker sections by providing a financial assistance of Rs 50,000 over the course of five years.

The eligible women who are registered as beneficiaries under the scheme receive two instalments of Rs 5,000 in a year, amounting to Rs 10,000 per year. The funds are transferred through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) framework directly into the registered women’s bank accounts.

The instalments are disbursed on International women’s day and on the festival of Raksha Bandhan. The government provides a Subhadra Card (ATM-cum-debit card) to the registered women to withdraw their funds. The scheme is operational for the period of five years from 2024-2025 to 2028-2029.

Apart from providing a financial safety net to the women, the scheme also aims to improve the health, nutritional and educational outcomes for women and their families.

Who is Eligible?

  • The applicant women must be resident of Odisha and of age between 21 to 60 years.
  • The woman should be covered under National food security act (NFSA) or State food security scheme (SFSS). However, if the woman’s family is not registered under NFSA or SFSS, they can still apply for Subhadra yojana if the family’s income is not more than Rs 2.50 lakh per annum.

Who is not eligible?

  • Any woman receiving financial assistance such as pension, scholarship etc of more than Rs 1,500 per month or Rs 18,000 per annum from any state of central government scheme will be ineligible.
  • Any current or former MP or MLA or an income tax payee.
  • Any elected public representative in any urban local body or Panchayati Raj institution except Ward member/Councillor, any regular or contractual employee under any central or state government department or any pension receiver.
  • If the woman or her family owns four-wheeler except tractor or small commercial vehicle.

How to Apply?

The state government has facilitated both- online and offline modes to apply for the Subhadra yojana. The woman applicant can visit any of the nearby offices such as Anganwadi centre, block office, urban local body office, Mo Seba kendra or common service centre and can submit the printed copy of the form after filling in the required details.

And to fill the form online, the applicant can visit the official website https://subhadra.odisha.gov.in/ and complete the eKYC.

There is no registration fees to apply for the scheme.

In case the beneficiaries are having any issues with their instalment, they can check at any of the mentioned nearest Anganwadi centre, block office, urban local body office, Mo Seba kendra or common service centres.
